Hot Springs, Arkansas #5

Image
Hot Springs, Arkansas      After arriving in Arkansas, we headed to Hot Springs Village, where my moms collage roommate, Annie lives part time. She has a husband, Grover, and an 8th month old baby, Lucy. When we arrived late in the night, Lucy had already gone to bed, but we still had a great time catching up with Annie and Grover. We talked for a few minutes, but headed to bed pretty quick.       When we woke up the next morning, we got to meet Lucy, the cutest baby ever, while she was eating her morning bottle. We spent all the time we could with Lucy, Annie, and Grover, but Lucy had to take two two hour naps, Annie had to work, and Grover had to stay at home in case Lucy needed help. So we went into the Hot Springs National Park, which felt more like a town than a park, hoping to bathe in the natural waters, just to find that the bathhouses weren't open! We still had a great time. There was a li ttle pool where you could feel the hot water, we...

Biking in Bentonville #4

Image
Biking in Bentonville Nov 16th-18th  Well this post is going to cover several days of biking; we've been so busy biking and so tired after, we haven't gotten to post about it yet at all, but needless to say the riding in Bentonville is amazing! There is a big trail network with lots of sections.  We have had Randy's truck so for the first two days of riding we drove to trail heads. The first day we rode Slaughter Pen. The trails were super flowy and fun.  We ended up at a big castle at the top of that section.  While we were riding, we would stop and see lots of sculptures and other kinds of art. Some were even made out of old bike parts! We enjoyed the hot tub that night, and some nice, homecooked food.  The next day, we rode at Coler Bike Park, we started off by climbing to the trail junction called, "the hub". At the top, there was mostly black diamond trails, but we found our way down a blue trail called Fire Line. Dad and I rode in the front and were having...

Arriving to Arkansas #3

Arriving in Arkansas After we left Darvin's we drove south toward Arkansas. Along the way we stopped at a REI to get some missing supplies. We were trying to get to Kansas City for dinner, but we didn't make it.  There would have been plenty of options for food there but only one where we stopped. Lucky for me we found a Made-Right, "home to the loose meat sandwich" which is my favorite sandwich. There was also a Amish convenient store where we got a loaf   of cinnamon bread. Then we headed out, after two more hours of driving we finally found a Cracker Barrel to spend the night. In the morning we went into the store and everyone had eggs and bacon expect for me, I got pancakes. We got on the road again and drove to our campsite where our friend Randy showed use around. My parents met Randy at RAGBRAI this summer and he lives here. He let us borrow his truck which was so generous. Thank you RANDY!   Randy's wife came to pick him up because he lent us his truck...

Iowa! #2

Image
Iowa! After South Dakota, we headed to visit my dad's cousin Darvin. He couldn't make the funeral because he is recovering from open heart surgery.  On the way we stopped in a little town in Iowa to get lunch and go to Walmart. We found all the stuff we needed at Walmart and then we found a Mexican restaurant that had really good Horchata- a cinnamon rice milk drink. At both places, we noticed the diversity, we were surprised because who thought that a little town in the middle of nowhere would have any diversity!  When we arrived in Meservey, we saw that Darvin was doing great and we stopped to visit and fix a few things in Charlene. We had our first day of 'school' here. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I sat in the back of the RV on my parents bed, and did my school work on my computer. After 'school' we did our exercise routine, my mom thinks is a great idea but my sister and I just roll our eyes and get 'em done.  Next, we headed out ...

First Post!

First Post! First Day! Hello Friends and Family and welcome to our road trip blog! Stella here, writing our first blog post! So far today we woke up at 7:40AM after one last nights sleep in our own beds. Then, we hit the road! It was really good for the first twenty minuets, but then we hit a big hill and Charlene (our camper) started to die out! So we pulled over in one of the emergency parking zones on the side of the highway, and a state trouper pulled up behind us! My dad got out and talked to him, he was very kind and said that he would wait with us while we decided what to do. So my dad called the GMC Motorhome Guru, Jim Bounds, and he said that he thought we had run out of gas. After the phone call, my dad told the state trouper that we were going to call AAA to bring us some gas, and the state trouper told us that he could get us some gas. My dad went inside and the state trouper (we forgot to get his name) called the Mass Pike Road Side Assistance Guy, which I will abbrev...
