Biking in Bentonville #4

Biking in Bentonville

Nov 16th-18th

Well this post is going to cover several days of biking; we've been so busy biking and so tired after, we haven't gotten to post about it yet at all, but needless to say the riding in Bentonville is amazing! There is a big trail network with lots of sections.  We have had Randy's truck so for the first two days of riding we drove to trail heads. The first day we rode Slaughter Pen. The trails were super flowy and fun.  We ended up at a big castle at the top of that section.

While we were riding, we would stop and see lots of sculptures and other kinds of art. Some were even made out of old bike parts! We enjoyed the hot tub that night, and some nice, homecooked food.

The next day, we rode at Coler Bike Park, we started off by climbing to the trail junction called, "the hub". At the top, there was mostly black diamond trails, but we found our way down a blue trail called Fire Line. Dad and I rode in the front and were having a blast until Dad crashed on top of a table top! He got right up and we continued our ride. We rode the length of the park, and on our way home, we stopped at The Homestead, a spot in the middle of the woods that had a little coffee shop called The Airship.

We went out that night and had fabulous Mexican food from a restaurant called Table Mesa. Next we tried a frozen custard place that Randy recommended we try before I give up on frozen custard, it was called Andy's, and it was really good.
The next day, we woke up and started off right from our campsite just riding what we found and having a blast. After that we met up with Penny and Randy and rode up to the castle at the top of Slaughter Pen. The way up was super hard and we were exhausted by the end, but it was worth it for the super fun down. Then we made our way over to a short metal trail called The Masterpiece. It is like an art exhibit all by its self. We did a couple of hot laps around the trail, and then headed over to an outdoor collection of art exhibits along a trail called Crystal Bridges.  It had things like a canoe filled with blown glass, and a giant deer.

By then Annalee and I were super tired. So we were so relieved when the adults decided that we should stop to look at the light ball exhibit and lay in the recliners.  Then we went into a semi inside building that changes colors to respond to the setting sun.

We watched the town square tree lighting ceremony and went out to fish dinner with Randy, Penny and their daughter, Erin.  She didn't bring a bike so she jogged along between the sunset room and town and dinner, man she can move!  The night ended biking home on trails in the dark with lights, including a lap on the glow in the dark trail.  All in all it was 19 miles and we were tired and cold by the time we got back to Charlene but it was fun!

The only one that didn't agree that Saturday was awesome was Ziggy, he had to sit this one out and I don't think he was happy about that.

  2. These trails look pretty awesome and the art along the way is great. It’s hard to believe they have Chihuly glass sculptures in the middle of the woods. We will miss you at our Thanksgiving table but having Thanksgiving with Debbie and her family will be a treat.
